Lowest Homeownership Rate in 15 Years

The percentage of Americans who own their homes fell a full percentage point over the year to 65.4% during the first three months of 2012. That's the lowest rate since 1997 according to the Census Bureau. Homeownership has fallen across the board, for all age groups, races and regions since the housing boom. Home foreclosures increased over the past six years with many homeowners becoming renters.
