Baby Boomers Are Staying Put

52% of today’s baby boomers are not moving and staying in place due to their financial situations as well as not trusting the real estate market of today. This latest news according to a recent poll done by the Associated Press and Lifegoesstrong.com. This survey also found that 40% of baby boomers expect to retire in their current homes. Younger boomers are more likely to move (35%) while 48% of older ones say they’re going to stay where they are. Those most likely to move are those who make more than $100,000 a year compared to those who have lived in their homes for over 20 years with a smaller income. Regarding owing or renting, 30% of boomers say they will buy their retirement home and 30% say they will rent. As far as preferences, boomers rather live near children, not have stairs, be close to medical care and near shops and services.
The dream of living in warm weather like Jacksonville, Florida is not as strong as it used to be. Boomers don’t believe it’s going to happen for them because home values are down about 30% nationwide.
