More Practical Home Design

There are new housing trends out there, replacing traditional rooms into more practical areas for family living. One such trend is a special room where everyone can drop their things called the drop zone, which is something being seen in new construction and remodeling. This room typically is ten feet by ten feet and has baskets for mail, places for backpacks and coats and storage for winter clothes and accessories. A trend that’s being phased out is the two-story foyer because of its impracticality and higher expenses. Sunrooms, media rooms, breakfast nooks and skylights are also disappearing. However laundry rooms and walk-in closets are here to stay. Homebuilders are saying people are focused on value and need these days versus potential future investment. The National Association of Home Builders is predicting that in four years homes won’t have living rooms, instead there will be one big room that includes a family room, a dining room and a kitchen.
